The two phases
The two phases

I define two stages of Kundalini activation - not awakening. Lets unpack the inner mechanics :-

THE PSYCHIC PHASE (INNER ACTIVATION)

This is the first major activation when Kundalini begins rising through the nervous system. This can be 1 year from the lucid wakefulness.

What it feels like :

1 - Tingling , heat or electric sensations in the spine

2 - Pressure in the head (especially round the third eye or crown chakra)

3 - Vivid dreams, visions, or symbolic imagery

4 - Heightened intuition and sensitivity to people / environments

5 - Emotional purging (old trauma surfacing)

WHATS ACTUALLY HAPPENING

The phase is neurological + energetic rewiring:

1 - The mind becomes more receptive to subtle perception

2 - The boundary between conscious and subconscious thins

3 - You begin accessing what traditions call the astral or psychic field

This why it’s called “psychic” - you may experience:

1 - Telepathic-like-intuition

2 - Synchronizations

3 - Archetypal visions -(similar to what Carl Jung described)

THE DANGER HERE

This stage can be unstable:

1 - Anxiety can mimic awakening

2 - Ego inflation (“Im special/chosen”)

3 - Misinterpreting random thoughts as spiritual truth

4 - The key: grounding and discernment

THE MAGIC PHASE (CONSCIOUS INFLUENCE)

If the psychic phase stabilizes , it can evolve into the Magic Phase - this is where awareness starts to interact with reality directly.

What it feels like :

1 - Strong sense that thoughts affect outcomes

2 - Increased manifestation ability

3 - Words, symbols and intention “feel charged”

4 - Deep alignment moments where reality seems responsive

WHATS ACTUALLY HAPPENING

This phase reflects coherence between:

1 - Mind

2 - Energy (Kundalini)

3 - Environment (perceived reality)

In esoteric systems , this linked to:

1 - The awakening of will and intention

2 - The alignment of inner and outer worlds

It parallels ideas in:

1 - Hermetic ism (“As above, so below”)

2 - Kabbalah (creative power of consciousness)

WHY IT FEELS LIKE MAGIC

Because your perception sharpens, you being noticing

1 - Cause and effect at subtle levels

2 - How belief shapes experience

3 - Patterns that were always there - but unseen

THE DANGER HERE

This is where people go off track if not careful:

1 - Delusion of control over everything

2 - Obsession with manifestation

3 - Loss of grounding in reality

→ The key is : humility and balance

THE REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO

Psychic Phase - Magic Phase

Passive perception - active interaction

Your recieve - you direct intention

impressions

awakening sensitivity - awakening influence

Inner world opens Inner + outer begins to align

THE DEEPER TRUTH, MOST IMPORTANT PART

These aren’t actually separate “powers” - they are stages of integration.

1 - Psychic phase - you see more

2 - You respond more consciously

But neither is the goal

In the deeper traditions (like Advaita Vedanta)

both stages are still within the realms of mind and illusion.

The final aim is:

1 - Not psychic ability

2 - Not manifestation power

→ But stability , clarity and union with awareness itself

Old notes from my journal:

The journey with Kundalini is a long and transforming experience. I define Kundalini in two stages, awaking (as in popular new age terms) and activation. The awakening is exactly that, a stirring of sleeping divine spirit. Anybody who does Sadhana (daily practice) over some time while using yogic breathing (pranayama) will likely experience it. The coiled serpent is closely connected and linked with the left and right channels. In the Shakti Chala (I.1 -8), it says restraint of breath (prana) is required in regard to Kundalini. I found mindfulness of breathing (anapatisati) and pranayama to easier methods to cause the movement of the Shakti.

The awakening of Kundalini can be a bit of shock to the spiritual system. When I read different descriptions of Kundalini awakening, they seem to be mixed up with activation .e.g feeling crawling in your arms and lucid dreams. The thing about this awakening is it doesn’t last, the energy will return to its origin, back to sleep. However, as time passes, vibrations at the base of the spine will come and go. Have you ever checked your vibrating mobile and found it wasn’t in your pocket, yep that’s the vibrations. A person can stay in the after-awakening phase until decisions are made about your role and destiny in this life.

Activation of Kundalini is extraordinary; this is acceptance and permission to climb Jacobs Ladder. This begins after successful crown chakra stimulation. Spiritual progress is rapid after activation.

So how does it activate? Yes, its starts with some lucid dreams, ones you do not control. The experience of these lucid dreams will cause a change in the core of your personal thinking and understanding.

Thanks for reading

David
