Here's what I have seen.
OK, so I don’t have all the answers. If I did, then I haven’t been asked all the questions, lol.
When a person dies, the first thing they will see before the light is the bardo, a place between life and death, cave. This is a dark cave with a woman in a robe carrying a lamp. She will guide the person to their next destination. This could be whatever heaven the person believes in or indeed a hell. The person could become a ghost and go back to their home to haunt it. Hell is like being chased by a terrible, hairy big big-toothed monster, and heaven is like a modern town with a slight 16th-century theme. I have had visions of both heaven and hell. Did you know that when you have lucid dreaming and see bollards in the dream space, these symbolise the separation of living and dead dreaming mind. If you cross past the bollards, then you have the same mind as a dead person who is dreaming away. Technically, this a yogic skill and not ordinary for us lot. Yogis can enter the living and dead mind space, giving them control over spirits. There is a yogic skill of dying and returning to life. A person is judged, and reincarnation will follow.
Of course, if you follow non dualism, then all I have described is a fantasy of the universe (mind ). The universe has many fanciful ideas.
